Where do you offer summer internships?

We offer summer internships in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia . The settings are hugely varied, and all incredible in their unique ways. You can be based in a rural village in Malawi, on an idyllic island in the Pacific Ocean, or in a multicultural city in Peru.

We also offer remote summer internships. If you’re unable to travel, but you’d like to gain some international work experience, this is a great opportunity. You’ll still be part of a nonprofit organization doing grassroots work in their local community, but you’ll have the flexibility of working from home.

Who are summer internships for?

We’re open to all applications. Many of our interns are students who are doing their internship as part of their degree, or at least as part of their career plan, but a summer internship can also be a great opportunity if you’ve just come out of high school, and you’re looking to combine a first work experience with traveling and explore different cultures and countries. Or you might be a working professional looking to change careers, or to just bring your skills to a good cause.
All our internships have specific requirements, so please check out which internships you might quality for, but there are plenty of programs that don’t require much experience – just some good skills, great passion, and a desire to learn. We carefully match each person with the right organization, ensuring that you’ll be able to use and develop the right skills, so just get in touch if you’d like to explore your options!

What type of work can I do during a summer internship?

We offer over 60 different summer internships, and cover a great diversity of focus areas. As an intern, you’ll have a specific role within a nonprofit organization. We want to make sure that you can both use your existing skills, and gain new skills and a wealth of new knowledge.

Whichever internship you join, you’ll be doing purposeful work that you’ll be able to see the results of on the ground. FAQs about summer internships with nonprofits

How long in advance do I need to apply for my summer internship?

While we do welcome last-minute applications, it’s ideal to give yourself at least a couple of months to make all your travel arrangements and get prepared. (We’ll be here to assist you with the logistics!) Also, the earlier you are with your application, the higher your chances are of being accepted to the internship you’re mostly interested in.

What is the duration of a summer internship?

Most internships have a minimum length of 8 weeks; but all programs vary slightly, so please check each listing for its specific requirements.

Will I need a visa?

Yes, you will need a visa. The requirements are different for each country, so the details depend on where you’ll be heading. But we’ll give you all the information you need to get the process started.

Will there be time to travel?

Absolutely! No matter where you’ll be joining us, you’ll be surrounded by incredible travel opportunities, and we encourage you to take the time to explore! You’ll generally have weekends off, but there’s usually also flexibility to take more time off. Just discuss it with your supervisor – and let us know if you’d like any assistance with planning trips and activities.
