More Tanzania Information

Weather and Climate

Tanzania experiences a diverse climate due to its size and geography. Zanzibar typically enjoys a dry season, from June to October, and a wet season, from November to April. The dry season offers sunny skies and pleasant temperatures, whilst the wet season brings heavy rains, high humidity, and occasional storms making it a less popular time to visit. However, the lush landscapes during this period can be appealing to some travelers.

Safety and Support

Throughout your stay in Zanzibar we’re here to support you. Tanzania, including Zanzibar, is generally considered safe for tourists. However, it’s important to exercise caution in crowded areas and take standard precautions against petty theft. In Zanzibar, while most areas are safe, isolated incidents of crime have occurred in Stone Town. Additionally, be aware of ocean currents when swimming. Stay updated on travel advisories, respect local customs, and hire reputable guides for safaris and excursions. Overall, with sensible precautions and awareness, Tanzania, including Zanzibar, offers a safe and enjoyable travel experience.

Tanzania Travel Requirements

  • Visa – Western travelers typically need a work or volunteer visa for a 3-month internship in Tanzania. For a 6-month internship, you’ll likely require a Business Visa. For anything over a year, you may need to consider a Class C Residence Permit issued by the Tanzanian government. We’ll be here to help with this but we also recommend consulting a Tanzanian Embassy for specifics.
  • Travel Insurance – You want to have a carefree experience during your internship abroad, so it’s important to get the right travel insurance; a package that is suited for your upcoming trip. Check out our page with more information on flights and insurance.
  • Police Clearance / Background Check – This is a standard policy for most of our internships, as you are often working with vulnerable individuals. The procedure on how to obtain a police clearance/background check varies per country.
  • Vaccinations – Recommended vaccinations for Tanzania include hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow fever (you’ll actually require a yellow fever certificate to enter the country). You’ll also need to ensure routine vaccinations are up to date and may also want to consider anti-malarial medication. As always, we recommend consulting your doctor or a travel clinic for personalized advice.
