While the country has made significant progress in terms of development, it still faces challenges in terms of income inequality, infrastructure, and poverty. The Philippines offers an array of nonprofit internship opportunities working towards these causes, but they also offer some of the best marine conservation internships in the world. This tranquil coastal town offers relaxation, adventure, and a chance to connect with nature in a serene, unspoiled setting.
The Philippines experiences a tropical maritime climate with three distinct seasons: Tag-init (hot and dry from March to May), Tag-ulan (rainy from June to November), and Tag-lamig (cool and dry from December to February). Dauin, situated in Negros Oriental, shares similar weather but may experience more stable conditions due to its location. Both areas enjoy warm temperatures year-round, making them ideal travel destinations, especially for beach-related activities.
Throughout your internship abroad we’re here to support you. Staying safe in the Philippines, including Dauin, will require some vigilance about petty crime, especially in crowded areas. In Dauin, a coastal town known for diving, safety risks are generally low but always follow local diving guidelines.
Additionally, stay updated on government advisories and weather warnings, as typhoons can impact both areas and there have been cases of civil unrest in the country in recent years.
While English is widely spoken, basic knowledge of Filipino or local dialects will be hugely beneficial.
Generally, non profit internships in the Philippines are unpaid. On occasion, organizations may offer stipends or benefits; these opportunities are rare.
Engage with the local community, embrace cultural experiences, and actively contribute to your organization’s mission for a fulfilling internship.
The Philippines tends to be budget-friendly, but costs can vary. Accommodations and food are generally affordable. That said, luxury options exist for those seeking them.
You can usually stay for up to 59 days with an option to extend your stay as long as you don’t receive any payment from a Philippines based company.
