Welcome to Internships in the Philippines

For an internship experience that is equal parts exotic and enriching, the Philippines is the destination to pick! Find world-class diving, mind-blowing natural beauty, and a fascinating history to unveil.

With its crystalline waters, world-famous beaches, and some of the best diving spots on the planet, the Philippines is a haven for marine enthusiasts and ocean lovers. The country’s lush landscapes extend beyond the shoreline though. You can explore the rice terraces of Banaue, hike the mountains of Luzon, or venture into the jungle for a taste of the country’s diverse ecosystems. All the while, you’ll be immersed in Filipino culture. Interning in the Philippines, you can enjoy your downtime participating in vibrant festivals, taking in a rich heritage of art, and enjoying great food. What’s more, Filipinos are renowned for their warm hospitality and friendliness, so interns will be welcomed by warm, lively communities.

The Philippines, an archipelago of 7,641 islands in Southeast Asia, beckons interns with its important history, burgeoning economy, and thriving nonprofit sector. While the country has made significant progress in terms of development, it still faces challenges in terms of income inequality, infrastructure, and poverty. The Philippines offers an array of nonprofit internship opportunities working towards these causes, but they also offer some of the best marine conservation internships in the world. A global hotspot for marine biodiversity, the Philippines boasts extraordinary marine research opportunities, studying thriving coral reefs teaming with countless fish species and unique creatures like pygmy seahorses and whale sharks.

More Philippines Information

Weather and Climate

The Philippines experiences a tropical maritime climate with three distinct seasons: Tag-init (hot and dry from March to May), Tag-ulan (rainy from June to November), and Tag-lamig (cool and dry from December to February). Dauin, situated in Negros Oriental, shares similar weather but may experience more stable conditions due to its location. Both areas enjoy warm temperatures year-round, making them ideal travel destinations, especially for beach-related activities.

Safety and Support

Throughout your internship abroad we’re here to support you. Staying safe in the Philippines, including Dauin, will require some vigilance about petty crime, especially in crowded areas. In Dauin, a coastal town known for diving, safety risks are generally low but always follow local diving guidelines.

Additionally, stay updated on government advisories and weather warnings, as typhoons can impact both areas and there have been cases of civil unrest in the country in recent years.

Philippines Travel Requirements

  • Visa – For internships under 3 months a tourist visa will typically suffice. This can be extended up to 6 months or longer. Extending your tourist visa is relatively easy as long as you are not receiving any payment from a Philippines company.
  • Travel Insurance – You want to have a carefree experience during your internship abroad, so it’s important to get the right travel insurance; a package that is suited for your upcoming trip. Check out our page with more information on flights and insurance.
  • Police Clearance / Background Check – This is a standard policy for most of our internships, as you are often working with vulnerable individuals. The procedure on how to obtain a police clearance/background check varies per country.
  • Vaccinations – Generally recommended vaccinations for the Philippines include Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and routine shots. Malaria prophylaxis might be needed in some areas. Always consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.
