A unique experience I was lucky to have! I’m very glad I stumbled upon Roots Interns. It has truly been a unique opportunity. At first, I was a little nervous as I’d never done a remote internship or worked with people from so far away in Africa, but stepping out of my comfort zone was exactly what I needed. I got the chance to work on social media posts (content editing and managing channels), a social media diary, fundraising/giving campaigns, and formatting & visualizing documents. Despite interning from home, I learned many new things and was especially pleased about the practical application of many aspects I had been taught in academic courses. I gained valuable insights into many different aspects of work, including data collection, monitoring, cooperation with other projects, communications, fundraising, etc. I learned a lot about the realities of running an NGO and could often use the skills and abilities I gained at university to fulfill my tasks. While I would have preferred to travel to Malawi, I did manage to gain in-depth insight into the way an NGO works and what the...Despite interning from home, I learned many new things and was especially pleased about the practical application of many aspects I had been taught in academic courses. This internship has exceeded my expectations as I wanted to learn about how a nonprofit functions and acquires funding / financial support. My supervisors welcomed me into the team, scheduled meetings to give me background information and a proper introduction, and they helped me jump right into the internship. I learned so much about nonprofit work and the difficulties of it. I wrote two applications for grants, wrote a newsletter that was released to an entire online community, helped my supervisors decide on a logo, ran their social media platform for the summer, and many other tasks in between! I learned so much about nonprofit work and the difficulties of it. I wrote two applications for grants, wrote a newsletter that was released to an entire online community, helped my supervisors decide on a logo, ran their social media platform for the summer, and many other tasks in between! The most important thing I learned was about the culture and people of Malawi. I was able to talk to multiple Malawian community members, teachers, and club leaders. Creating connections with people there meant the most to me because, with a virtual internship, I didn't know if I'd be able to connect with the people or learn about the culture. Putting in the effort to learn about Malawi was the most rewarding aspect for me. See More Fundraising Internship, Remote
