PROGRAM OVERVIEW
TRAVEL TO CAMBODIA AND HELP A SOCIAL IMPACT NONPROFIT TO BETTER UTILIZE SOFTWARES AND DIGITAL TOOLS IN THEIR WORK
You’ll gain experience in data management and IT support whilst helping to lift communities out of poverty. You’ll join an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in Siem Reap, Cambodia. They work towards this goal by providing a range of 11 integrated programs for children between the ages of 5 and 18. Concurrent to their education programs, the organization provides holistic support to the children’s families to ensure they are also supported. Their aim is to provide their beneficiaries with all-rounded support that meets both their long-term and day-to-day needs allowing children to learn, develop, and grow.
This organization uses a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to manage donors, fundraising campaigns, and information on their beneficiaries. Your role as an intern will be to provide technical support and ensure the organization is utilizing this software to its full potential. For those interested, you’ll also get the chance to contribute to curriculum development for their Computer Literacy program.

This organization is a social impact nonprofit focused on breaking the cycle of poverty and reducing the socio-economic gap in Siem Reap, Cambodia through education. REACH provides English classes alongside a range of 11 integrated programs.
They take a more holistic approach to most education initiatives and when enrolling children into their school they provide their families with all-rounded support. Their aim is to provide children with both quality education and a safe environment to grow so that one day they can find fair employment and break free from poverty.
TASKS & REQUIreMENTS
Your focus on this internship will be optimizing the organization’s IT infrastructure and specifically their CRM system. This will include researching software, processing data, producing reports, and analyzing findings for insights into progress. In addition to this you’ll have the chance to get involved developing and facilitating their educational computer literacy programs.
Responsibilities

- Training team members to use software
- Creating informational and educational resources
Requirements
- Working with children requires a permit or valid police check
- Academic background or prior experience in IT or related field
- Knowledge of CRM systems or similar software is preferred
- Data-analysis skills
- Culturally aware and open-minded
- Interest in social development and education
- Fluent English language
WHERE YOU’LL STAY
Accommodation is organized on a case-by-case basis from a selection of guesthouses and hotels. Each location is well-equipped with comfortable rooms, laundry, a kitchen, and Wi-Fi. Interns will also have the option to take their meals at the organization’s center.

Cambodians are very friendly and although most visits are trouble-free, petty crime (e.g. bag or phone snatches) does occur. Make sure to visit your doctor and dentist for a check-up before your internship and to get all the recommended vaccines and/or medications necessary to stay healthy. Malaria risk is present throughout the year in all areas except Phnom Penh, other main cities, Angkor Wat, Siem Reap and close to Tonle Sap. Depending on your travel plans, consult your local health clinic for advice on malaria precautions.

Mobile network in the bigger cities is generally good, but you might not be able to use your phone in the more rural areas. Note that global roaming is often very expensive in Cambodia, so you might want to consider buying a local SIM card.

You’ll be based in Siem Reap, Cambodia’s second-largest city and the capital of Siem Reap Province. The city boasts a blend of French colonial and Chinese architectural influences and offers an array of attractions including museums, traditional Apsara dance performances, a Cambodian cultural village, and a diverse cuisine and nightlife. Most notably, Siem Reap is home to the renowned Angkor Wat temples pictured on Cambodia’s flag.

The rate depends on the type of accommodation you choose, but for a private room they start at:

Inclusions
- Careful matchmaking. It takes time to find the right internship for each person, and we take this process very seriously
- Initial interview with one of our team to gauge your skills, interests, and desired learning outcomes
- An academic internship eligible for university credit. Check with your university to confirm if this internship qualifies for credit or alternatively we can assist you with purchasing transfer credits
- Accommodation in an apartment in town. Please contact us for availability and prices. It’s also possible to stay in a single room in a guesthouse (additional fee applies).
- Airport transfers upon arrival and departure
- Prepare your own meals at the accommodation or you can join for two meals (9.30AM/3:30PM at the organization’s center)
- Wi-Fi access
- Assistance with your visa arrangement and other preparations
- An orientation program with your supervisor
- Supervision and support during your stay
- Regular check-ins during your internship with your supervisor
- Troubleshooting if needed
- A reference letter at the end of your internship
Exclusions
- Flights to Siem Reap
- Visa and medical/travel insurance costs for the duration of your placement – must include cover for repatriation
- Transport to the office
- Electricity bill in case of staying in an apartment; the costs vary depending on your usage (between USD 30-100 per month)
- Drinks, snacks, and items of personal nature (f.e. curios, gifts, clothing)
- Costs for additional excursions or activities
