INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE AT MULTI-PURPOSE COMMUNITY CENTER

The Baobuyu Learning Center is based in a village called Mwandi in Livingstone, Zambia, and was started to address the area’s lack of free, accessible education. Zambia is one of the most underdeveloped countries in the world, with most of the population living in poverty. Now, the Baobuyu Learning Center has grown into an important hub with various educational programs for the local community.

During the morning the center is a preschool for kids from ages 2 to 6. While the preschool originally only had 9 kids, they have now expanded to a group of 41 kids. In the afternoon, the center runs a variety of workshops including, skill development, support groups for girls, recycling club, a woman’s group, health workshops, and a chess club.

With the multipurpose nature of this organization, there are several focuses you can choose as an intern, including marketing, writing, education, and sustainability. Any of these causes will greatly benefit from your input!

Lucrecia, Belgian – KU Leuven

Writing and Communications Internship, Remote

I loved seeing the impact of our work on the students and being part of a creative, collaborative environment. It was inspiring to watch students explore new ideas through poetry and storytelling, and the experience boosted my confidence while showing me how much meaningful impact a well-designed projected can have on a community.

Gabrielle, British – Aberystwyth University

Writing and Communications Internship, Zambia

My internship taught me the vital importance of tailoring public health strategies to meet the unique needs of underserved communities, especially in resource-limited settings. Developing an HIV/AIDS education curriculum for inmates in Zambia not only reinforced how education can reduce stigma and improve health outcomes, but also transformed my belief in grassroots efforts as catalysts for lasting change. This journey has sharpened my skills, deepened my cultural understanding, and affirmed my commitment to community-based health education and disaster response—equipping me to contribute meaningfully to advancing health equity.
