Internships with Lilongwe Wildlife Trust

In the heart of Malawi, a dedicated team of conservationists works tirelessly to protect the country’s incredible wildlife. Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, founded in 2007, is at the forefront of conservation, running Malawi’s only accredited wildlife sanctuary and leading efforts in research, law enforcement, and environmental education. Every year, countless animals fall victim to habitat destruction, poaching, and illegal wildlife trade, but the Trust is there to rescue, rehabilitate, and, whenever possible, release them back into the wild. Their work extends far beyond individual animal rescues; they are committed to strengthening conservation policies, protecting habitats, and ensuring the survival of Malawi’s unique biodiversity.

But their impact doesn’t stop there. By working closely with local communities, they promote sustainable conservation practices that benefit both people and nature. Through outreach programs, school initiatives, and hands-on training, they inspire future generations to care for Malawi’s natural resources. They also play a key role in wildlife crime prevention by collaborating with law enforcement agencies to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trade. Whether through community-driven conservation projects, innovative research, or advocacy at the national level, Lilongwe Wildlife Trust is shaping a future where humans and wildlife can thrive together.

Wildlife Sanctuary Internship, Malawi

Being surrounded by such a wonderful team of caring individuals, all dedicated to rehabilitating and caring for wildlife, was truly inspiring. Shadowing the head veterinarian and assisting with daily tasks like administering medications and handling patients gave me a glimpse into the complexities of wildlife medicine and the dedication it requires. While the experience differed from my initial expectations, it reminded me how much I admire and want to pursue a career in wildlife conservation, and I left with immense respect for everyone working tirelessly to protect these incredible animals.
