Internships with the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary

Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization that runs a 24/7 veterinary clinic in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. There, they work to rescue and rehabilitate injured wildlife with the ultimate goal of re-releasing them. Established in 2014, they are already making an important difference in wildlife conservation in the area and have rescued over 2000 animals from approximately 210 different species of Costa Rican wildlife.

This area of Costa Rica sees a lot of its wildlife injured or killed due to traffic accidents, electrocutions, domestic animal attacks, the pet trade, and wildlife orphans. Not every animal that enters the sanctuary can be released. At this point, the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary will act as a refuge for these animals. Adjacent to their veterinary work, they run an educational community outreach program to improve human-wildlife coexistence.

It opened my eyes to a new part of the world, allowed me to see parts of Costa Rica I wouldn't have been able to see on my own, and I experienced a new way of life. I met so many people from all over the world and so many lifelong friends were made. I eventually got over my fear of bugs and really enjoyed living the Costa Rican... See More

Community Development Internship, Malawi

Interning in Malawi allowed me to not only work on their current projects, but also venture off on my own to make new connections within the community. I was able to meet so many different community leaders, teachers, mentors, and coaches within Nkhata Bay and surrounding villages. I feel like I was able to not only bring new knowledge and ideas to the people of Nkhata Bay, but also learn so much from them and develop in my own way. It was truly a beautiful experience that I will always be grateful for, and has encouraged a future of volunteering... See More
