Internships with COPROT

Based on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, COPROT works to conserve sea turtle nesting beach habitats by educating and empowering local communities to protect their natural resources. Established in 2018, the organization has rapidly expanded and now manages just over 8 kilometers of coastline amidst some of the busiest turtle nesting beaches in the south Pacific of Costa Rica. They register over 7000 nests from which nearly quarter of a million turtles hatch each season.

They take a community based approach to their work and as well as their own conservation projects run manifold programs to educate and empower local communities to protect their natural resources. They have been able to provide paid employment for locals through the establishing and developing numerous community-led initiatives including marine plastic upcycling and women’s empowerment groups. Underpinning all their work, they also conduct independent research to better understand the risks and most efficient means of conserving turtle beach habitats.
