Internships with Cape RADD
Cape RADD (Research and Diver Development) is a marine research center based in Simon’s Town, South Africa, dedicated to promoting marine conservation through research, education, and citizen science programs. Driven by intense curiosity and passion for our oceans, the founders of this organization aim to utilize citizen science as a means of mass data collection and widening public outreach for conservation awareness. By bridging the gap between science and the public, the organization aims to empower individuals to become advocates for the protection of our oceans and the species that inhabit them.
The majority of their work revolves around data collection and research with an intent to develop statistical information on marine life and human impact on it. They run a wide range of programs including monitoring fish shoaling behavior in kelp forests, measuring the impact of diving ecotourism, and a shark tagging system using their own AI identification technology. Aswell as their citizen science initiatives, the organization is dedicated to training early career scientists in both practical and theoretical practice of marine science.
