Be at the forefront of change through this transformative fundraising & communication internship. With exposure to real social initiatives in the heart of South Africa, you will be able to engage with stakeholders, perform donor research, and offer fundraising support. Interns will support projects at every stage of development, from interviews and proposals to impact storytelling and final reporting. With support from experienced staff, you will contribute to resource mobilization and sustainability efforts that support important initiatives serving vulnerable groups. Involvement in these tasks can enhance your communication skills, and your contributions will leave a lasting impact.
This Communications Internship mixes office-based work, fieldwork, and virtual tasks, with most of the in-field portion directly in the communities. Also offered is an extended stream that involves deeper project involvement and longer-term assignments. For those who would like the flexibility to contribute anywhere in the world, this internship is available fully remote. An in-person experience would add another dimension of cultural enrichment between South Africa’s vibrant communities and natural landscapes.
Learning Objectives
This South African registered nonprofit operates at the intersection of youth empowerment, gender equality, climate resilience, and access to justice, delivering community-driven and evidence-based programs that address the root causes of social inequality. Working alongside communities, corporate social investors, and fellow nonprofit organizations, the organization implements interventions across areas including gender-based violence prevention, skills development, support for persons with disabilities, and care for orphans and vulnerable children.
Guided by a multidisciplinary team of senior mentors and technical advisors, its programs equip young people, particularly women and other vulnerable groups, with practical experience, workplace readiness, and leadership skills. Through this work, the organization has produced a growing pipeline of emerging leaders who are now driving grassroots initiatives and contributing to sustainable development in their communities.
This internship, while a decent portion involves writing, will include direct interaction with local vulnerable communities. Due to exposure to marginalized and sensitive groups, interns should approach the experience with cultural awareness and adaptability.
Specific project assignments will vary based on the internship period. However, all objectives will be addressed throughout the duration. Some of the tasks will be tailored to your background and interests.
