Participate in a faculty-led program that explores climate change issues in an African context
Based in either South Africa or Zambia, you’ll learn about a range of environmental issues in either an urban or rural African setting (or both) and explore innovative solutions to these issues.
This climate change academic program can include topics such as deforestation, sustainable forest management, alternative energy sources, and food security. You’ll also be able to assess and actively participate in practical solutions developed by this grass-roots environmental program.
These faculty-led programs are fully customized for your university. To ensure maximum professional development for all students, we’ll design a well-structured program that incorporates both a variety of lectures and on-the-ground projects, and your group will be guided by experts along the way.

Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is arguably one of the most stunning cities in the world. Framed between oceans and mountains, it’s surrounded by incredible natural beauty, with Table Mountain, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, an absolute highlight. Cape Town is also a place of huge diversity, lively cultures, and a vibrant nightlife. Living here is dynamic and interesting, and weekends will give you a huge variety of exciting activities. You can, for instance, venture to the top of Table Mountain, visit the historic Robben Island, drive to the iconic Cape Point, or hang out on some of the many beaches. If you’re into food and design, you can also choose to visit some of the trendy markets for some culinary treats and locally designed goods. Moreover, once you venture outside of Cape Town, you’ll find gorgeous Winelands and stunning National Parks that are well worth a good road trip.
Livingstone, Zambia
A small city with a rural character and friendly people, Livingstone is a welcoming and charming place. It’s also a place of natural beauty; Livingstone is situated on the mighty Zambezi River, only ten kilometers away from the famous Victoria Falls, and surrounded by the bush (and yes, elephants roam around on the outskirts of the town). Weekends will give you the opportunity to encounter wildlife on game drives in a nearby National Park, to venture onto the Zambezi for a boat cruise, or to get soaked by the spray of the falls. For the adventurous type, there’s plenty to explore too. Known as the Adventure Capital of Africa, Livingstone offers dare-devil activities such as white water rafting, bungee jumping, or gorge swinging. A tourist hub spot for good reason, the Zambian town offers an abundance of character and opportunity.
