ANIMAL WELFARE INTERNSHIPS LOOKING FOR INTERNS

Street Tails is a start-up nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the suffering of dogs and cats on the streets of Africa. These animals lack food, shelter, and are susceptible to disease and infection. By working with local communities, Street Tails takes a diverse approach to the stray animal crisis. The initiatives they have implemented include sterilization projects, veterinary services, community education, and rescue and homing projects.

This organization is currently working in South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Street Tails caters their services per the country they are operating in, as each place has its own unique needs. Yet, the need to reduce stray dogs and cats is a continental issue, and the nonprofit’s aim is to expand to all countries in Africa.

This fairly new organization is looking for motivated interns, who also have a love of animals!

THE ISSUE AND THE METHODS

There are millions of stray and uncared for dogs and cats in Africa; an issue of enormous scale that is to a large part under-highlighted and overlooked. Many of these animals are homeless, but even when they are owned, they often don’t get the food, veterinary care, and shelter they need, as people simply can’t afford it.

Street Tails works with local partner organizations on the ground – dedicated groups of people with all the relevant local knowledge and experience – to address the issue in the following ways:

  • Rescue and rehoming campaigns
  • Veterinary services for pet owners who can’t afford vet bills
  • Large-scale neutering campaigns to stop the uncontrolled population growth
  • Education programs to encourage bonding between humans and animals
