Internships with an innovative medical research organization
Based in Zimbabwe, Mutala Research is a nonprofit organization working on providing outstanding clinical research services in Africa. It is part of the larger Charles River Medical Group (CRMG), a research organization whose mission is to collaborate with innovators and experts to support the diversification of clinical trials and to widen the clinical research and development competences in Africa. To achieve this, they work alongside governments, academia, industry leaders, and many other nonprofit organizations, running clinical trials to advance medical science and to bring innovative therapeutics to diverse populations around the world, but specifically focused on the African continent.
Being the nonprofit research branch of CRMG, Mutala Research focuses on nonprofit public health research and science research implementation in Africa. This world-leading research center is proudly inclusive in its operation, being run by Africans, for Africans. The significance of its work is due to the fact that only 2% of the world’s clinical trials are run in Africa, albeit home to 15% of world population. With a rapidly rising population and some of the fastest growing economies in the world, and as more Africans join the middle class, a dedicated public healthcare proven to be safe and efficacious to the African people is more important than ever. Mutala Research greatly contributes to research areas such as vaccine hesitancy, vaccine effectiveness studies, and adolescent HIV treatment, among others.
