Internships with Kampuchea Sëla Handicap Organization
Based in Phnom Penh, Kampuchea Sëla Handicap Organization (KSH) is one of the first nonprofits in Cambodia dedicated to caring for adults with mental disabilities. They run an assisted living community where mentally disabled people over the age of 18 can stay and take development classes. Here, their beneficiaries can enjoy life contributing to a community whilst learning the skills they will need to ultimately take on their independence and autonomy. They can also practice their vocational skills working for the organization’s social enterprise, L’Irresistible Jams & Syrups.
KSH also conducts extensive advocacy and awareness campaigns. They work not only to raise awareness of mental disability in Cambodia, but to train a new generation of specialized educators. Their educational programs aim to inspire governmental and cultural change, and promote a new model for the care and integration for adults with mental disabilities. Their vision is that once their beneficiaries are ready to graduate from the assisted living community, they can do so into a more tolerant and understanding society.
