Civicom Aid
Founded in 2018 after a formative visit to Makueni County, Kenya, Civicom Aid is a nonprofit that identifies where communities lack the water, food, and opportunity needed for young people to build a future at home. Through community-designed and community-led projects, they support critical issues such as extreme rural poverty, out-of-school youth, and land degradation across drylands and slum regions. The organization aims to equip vulnerable communities with access to education, sustainable agriculture, and income-generating opportunities so poverty can be addressed at its roots.
As a community-based, impact-driven organization, the organization is committed to serving as a partner for some of the most marginalized groups, including family farmers in remote drylands, out-of-school youth, women entrepreneurs in slums, people living with disabilities, and refugees. By anchoring every project to a UN Sustainable Development Goal and building alongside the community it serves, they are committed to ensuring programs are sustainable and impactful while driving long-term change at both the community and systemic levels.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) supported:
- SDG 1: No Poverty – The Business Growth Pathway supports small business entrepreneurs in the Likoni 203, Moroto, and Bangaladesh slum regions, working through the established local Hubs. Entrepreneurs receive training on business skills and access business tools, grouped in business hubs where they discuss business experiences, challenges, solutions, and skills, alongside ongoing support.
- SDG 4: Quality Education – The Education Access Pathway operates in Kenya and Uganda, reaching children in remote and slum regions and remote villages, providing school supplies to children who write on the floor and those who are out of school. It also provides scholarships, trains Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and connects youth to Brigham Young University (BYU), a university based in the United States, online free courses, skills that lead youth to digital jobs around the world.
- SDG 15: Life on Land – The Farmer-Managed Community Restoration program supports family farmers in dry land regions and rainy regions. The organization works through established farmer hubs, where remote family farmers share knowledge, experience, and skills among themselves, neighbors, and young people. They learn regenerative farming, assisted natural regeneration, bund construction, and AI for farming.
